Bay Of Plenty Province Federated Farmers’ Remits At Quarterly Meeting

The quarterly meeting of the executive of Federated Farmers of N.Z. (Inc.), Bay of Plenty Province, held in the County Chambers, Whakatane, recently drew a good attendance of delegates from .all branches. The agenda was a long one and dealt with speedily, Mr A. L. Friis, Provincial President, being in the chair. A full discussion took place on the Farm Schools recently held through the Bay and a committee was ‘appointed to prepare for schools next year. Branches were requested to send to the Provincial office their reports and any suggestions they might wish to make which would be of assistance to the committee in drawing up next year’s itinerary. - A number of other matters were dealt with in committee. The following remits were carried:—■

“That this executive views with serious alarm any suggestion that the system of lump sum payments by the United Kingdom Government to the New Zealand Government should continue, and that any payments of this nature be incorporated in the price paid for primary produce. “That this executive views with alarm the ever . increasing hospital rate, which is being aggravated by the non-payment of Maori rates, and that where Maori ratepayers fail to pay their Hospital rates, the Native Department or the Government should meet the deficiency so that it would not be an added burden on other ratepayers. “That this executive supports a remit to the Dominion Conference to the effect that flood damage insurance should be paid from the present War and Earthquake Fund beld by' the Government. <’ “That the executive take up the ■question of the supply of manure to individual farmers with the objeot of having supplies of manure arriving in the district at any one time spread, in order to give each farmer as far as possible a proportion of his order.”
