Saleyard Drainage A method of draining the slack water from Dalgety and Co’s saleyards at Whakatane was suggested by the Whakatane County engineer, Mr.C. H. Brebner, at the Council’s meeting yesterday. He suggested bulldozing the knoll, which at present blocks the flow to the Whakatane river, down into a gentle grade. Best Kind of Present “A book is such a satisfactory sort oh present to give; at least, I think so. Not only because, of course, you can read it yourself first, being careful not to drop any jam or coffee on it while doing so, but because it is a far more personal thing to give than, I think most people realise. You give someone a book you’ve liked, that has meant something to you and you’re giving that person an insight into your own thoughts and feelings, and asking them to share them with you.”—George Henchel speaking at the BBC). / •
