Extra Accommodation For Infant Classes

“With the transfer and re-erection of the school building from Te Haehaenga, there is at the moment sufficient accommodation for the present roll of 184, but,. a= further 20 infants, at least, will be admitted at the beginning of next term and a substantial number are expected in the 1949 school year,” says another section of the report. “A group of Standard 1 pupils is accommodated in the Bandroom opposite the Infant School in Francis Street and on .the erection of the four prefabricated rooms at the Main School, for which authority has been given, it is proposed to transfer this class to one of the new rooms and use the bandroom to cope with the Infant Department overflow. However, the bandroom which has been in use, we believe, for 20 to 25 years is a most unsatisfactory room, being draughty, ill lit and poorly heated. We would strongly recommend the erection of additional classroom space at the Infant Department which seems destined to remain the permanent establishment for Infant children. Pending the erection of a permanent room we would ask that the additional prefabricated rooms be provided urgently to permit of the surrendering of the bandroom.”
