Splendid Response To Parent-Teacher Appeal To Increase Membership
There has been a splendid response from parents to the canvass for membership' made by the Whakatane branch of the Parent-Teacher Association during the past few weeks and 85 new members have been obtained to date. At the Social Evening at the High School.on Monday night, the President, Mr Watts, welcomed new members and also representatives of the newly-formed Awakeri ParentTeacher Association who were present. The programe for the evening included a Musical Mime by Mesdames Sutcliffe, Cantrell and Hannah accompanied by Mrs L. King and a Quiz conducted by Mr Dreghorn. . Monthly meetings are to be held in future instead of bi-monthly as previously and alternate months will be Film Evenings. The weekly Five Hundred Evenings being run by the Association during the winter months at the High School are proving very popular. With the larger membership and increased interest of parents it is hoped by the Association that more can be accomplished in co-operating with teachers and the .School Committee to benefit the school and the children.
