Waimana-Nukuhou W.I. Gardening Circle

The May meeting of the Wai-mana-Nukuh(?u gardening circle was held at Mrs Wylde’s home last Wednesday . afternoon. Mrs R. Looney gave an interesting reading on the training of Standard roses and the training of Wisteria into a shrub. She also read a poem called “Roses.”

Mrs Upton, of Northcote, Auckland, spoke on competitions arranged at their Horticultural Society’s meetings and also gave names of good roses to grow. A competition arranged by Mrs Wylde, detecting the scent of fifteen different spices and other articles used in the kitchen, was won by Mrs M. King and Mrs J. Mitchell, equal 1 and Mrs T. King 2. ,The competition entries were not as numerous as usual. Following are the results:— '

Bowl of autumn foliage and berries: Mrs J. Mitchell 1, Mrs Whiteman 2, Mrs Wylde 3. Best bloom: Mrs Hewitt 1, Mrs J. Mitchell 2, Mrs M. King 3. Best vegetable: Mrs Hewitt 1, Mrs Whiteman 2.
