P. & T. Cricket Club’s Social Was Great Success

The P. and T. Cricket Club held a most successful wind-up social and trophy presentation in- the Whakatane Winter Show Buildings on Saturday night. Mr B. S. Barry,’Mayor of .Whakatane, opened the evening with a general summary of cricket and the chances for the future of the cricketing grounds in the Whakatane district.

Officials of the club then addressed the gathering on all aspects of cricket, after which the usual toasts were honoured.

Trophy presentation was the next item.

J. B. D. Rivett received the McIntosh Shield for the first, century of the season. He also won the best bowling trophy presented by Mrs W. D. Rivett. The most catches for the season cup presented by Mrs J. D. Rivett Snr., was won by W. D. Rivett. The special cup of the season, the S. S. Shapley Jnr. Mugs' Cup for the most “ducks” of the season, was won by P. Seebeck, J. J. Stringer and W. D. Rivett. After the presentations, everyone began on the delicious supper laid out. During the supper the party was entertained by Mr N. E. Rigden at the piano, who played numbers for a community sing, also by a solo by Mrs N. O’Brien. When the entertainers had finished their items, Miss D. Sykes played the piano and everyone who wished to dance. The party closed at midnight. Competition winners were B. and J. J., and P. Seebeck.
