Awakeri Y.F.C. Activities Include Show Courts And Community Centre

The monthly meeting of the Awakeri Young Farmers’ Club was held in the Awakeri Hall last Tuesday. Show courts for the Waikato Winter Show, suggestions for the proposed Community Centre at Awakeri, and the Leadership evening on April 20 were discussed. On Monday 12, a debate was held at Awakeri between Otakiri .and Awakeri Y.F. Clubs, the subject being “That country life is better than town life.” Otakiri took the negative side, the speakers being G. Murray, J. Kier and E. Neilson. Awakeri was supported by B. Mundy, S. Luttrell and J. Barr. The subject was very keenly debated and resulted in Awakeri winning with a total of 269 points, while. Otakiri scored 266. The adjudicator was Mr lan Gow, and Mr J. Neilson acted as timekeeper.. A tempting supper brought a pleasant evening to a close. Mr E. R. Marryatt, District Fields Instructor, showed four agricultural films last Monday “Pollination,”. “Tomorrow’s Timber,” “The Life Cycle of Maize,” and bred,” also two war films, “Winter Front” and “The Battle of Britain.”
