Local Boxing Standard Improving: Club Hopes To Enter In Opotiki Trials
Whakatane boxing club members are all in hard training at present in view of the pending tournaments that are to be held in the Bay of Plenty in the near future. Amongst the boys who have been outstanding in their training Willy Penny, whose style and boring tactics have improved considerably since last season, should do very well in coming bouts. Guy Francis and Willy Paul are two more boxers who have improved in all forms and who, with others of the club, hope to figure in the championships to be held at Whakatane later in the year. Welcome additions to the boxing team of the local club are the Wallace bros. two of the leading amateurs of Auckland, who are now living in the district and should be seen in action in Whakatane very soon. A team of boxers from the club will be visiting Opotiki to take part in the first tournament Of the year on May 3 provided the instructors think the team capable and sufficiently fit.
