River Island Reserved For Control Purposes
Advice has been received from the Minister of Lands, through Mr W. Sullivan M.P., that the Harbour Board’s agreement to the proposal that the River Island be reserved and its control vested in the Board has been noted, and as soon as possible action will be taken to issue the necessary Warrant reserving the land for river control purposes. As a preliminary to this step a survey of the island is necessary, and on account -of the pressure of work which the Department has in hand in connection with the rehabilitation of ex-servicemen on the land, difficulty is being experienced in arranging for a surveyor to, do the survey. • * If in the .meantime the Harbour Board is anxious to proceed with the work of repairing and-’ constructing new groynes it is suggested that the Board get in touch with the Commissioner of Lands, Auckland, with a view tfo making mutually satisfactory arrangements whereby the work may proceed without waiting for the reservation and vesting of the island. Tenders will, be called- for the work next summer.
