Board’s Satisfaction At Success of Rock Blasting Operations
Satisfaction with the work of the Naval party that worked on the rock blasting here last month was expressed by members of the Harbour Board who on Friday received the official report of the engineer, Mr C. H. Brebner, on the work carried out.
Mr Brebner said that, but for unfortunate silting up that prevented the party from locating the rock beside the reef and the one directly opposite, the whole programme would have been - completed. He recommended that the Board again enlist the aid of the Navy after a fresh had occurred in the river and the two rocks in question had been uncovered. He warmly praised the Naval party and their work. The secretary, Mr C. G. Lucas, reported that the Navy’s bill for £225 expended in stores had been paid, and that a letter had been directed the Naval Secretary thanking Navy Office for the work it had undertaken on the Board’s behalf and asking it to convey to Mr Ansley the Board’s appreciation of the able and efficient manner -in which a dangerous and difficult task was completed. In reply, the Naval Board thanked the Harbour Board for the series of photographs enclosed with the letter and said it would be glad .to help with the demolition of the other rocks later. A letter from the Marine Secretary on the same subject complimented the Board on the initiative it had shown.
