Whakatane Leads Bay Ports In Cargo Handled During Year 1947

Comparative Bay of Plenty port statistics for the 12 months ended December, 1947, show that, during that period, Whakatane handled over 5,800 tons more cargo than Tauranga and Opotiki put togeher. Tauranga worked the largest number of ships, 118, compared wih Whakatane’s 105 and Opotiki’s 55. Total manifest tonnages at the three ports were: Whakatane 35,447, Tauranga 17,148, Opotiki 12,454.
