Salesmanship, Business And House Repairing Best Sellers In America Today
The average American reader is unconcerned with international affairs, the atom bomb, and the recent war, the American Library Association reports. Books on these subjects were virtually untouched in 1947, but there was a tremendous demand for books on salesmanship, job-hunting, and business generally. The housing shortage was responsible for an increased demand on books on house repairing and decoration. There was also an awakening of interest in classics. War fiction lay on the shelves almost untouched, but novels dealing with race and social problems found eager borrowers. Circulation figures indicate that Americans are reading more than in former years.
