More Scope For Private Enterprise Under Planned Economy, Says Polish Paper
Planned economy, by doing away with monopolies, has given more scope to genuine private enterprise in Poland, says the Katowice paper, Dziennik Zachodni. The Polish Government has nationalised all industries employing more than 50 people. Private firms employing less than 50 are allowed to operate in many trades and' industries. Dziennik Zachodni says that the part, played by private enterprise in 1947 had increased, particularly in the Regained (Oder-Neisse-Stet-tin) Territories. “The State, appreciating the role of private firms, has transferred several workshops and businesses to private hands,” says the Katowice paper. “About 200,000 persons are employed in the private sector of industry.” Dziennik Zachodni points out that the Government controls.the development of private industry in Poland. “Such control,” it says, “is necessary because effort and material must not be wasted on luxury goods. Co-operation of the State and private sectors is giving good results.” Kurier Codzienny, a Warsaw daily, says that many facilities were given by the government to private firms to export goods in 1947.
