Mysterious Rumbling Noise Heard At Paeroa
A rumbling noise that has sound- j ed similar to deep blasting, or even as might be expected from an earthquake, has been heard by residents of Paeroa over the past few days. Enquiries have beeln made but no blasting operations can be traced, and at present there seems to be no accounting for the noises heard. One resident who had experienced •earthquakes in the Wairarapa likened the noise to an earthquake, but said that there was not the accompanying tremor. There was, though, a slight tremble with the rumbling sound. A possible explanation is that a number of. obselete sticky bombs were being let off at Ngaruawahia and were being used to blast willows from the river bank and stumps out of farmers' properties.
