RAIN BROUGHT RELIEF FROM MINOR DROUGHT
Though not as much as was needed, the rain which fell last week has broken a drought that was just beginning to take on a serious form. The change is visible about the town and the country. Pastures have all taken on a new lease of life and it is expected that the dairy output, dropping off on account'of the lack of green feed and the dry weather, will commence to improve also. The gardens and lawns about the town have also taken on a fresher appearance.
At Ohope the rain has proved a boon, as most of the water supplies about there are spring-fed and the hot spell had dried them up considerably. The amount of rain that fell in this district was measured at 1.24 inches for the Rangitaiki plains and .80 inches for the town area, according to/the ; local meieorologkts, Messrs. A. MgLean and|U Kingsley-. Smith. ¥' : J§- Mf ' g //. ' j===o± / /■'
