DENTAL SERVICE MAY BE IMPAIRED BY BOARD PROBLEM
Unless someone makes board available for Miss J. Mcßae, who has been appointed to the staff of the Whakatane school dental clinic, the service will suffer considerably after the present senior nurse, Mrs S. Ferguson, leaves. It is pointed out that the clinic provides free dental treatment for 1400 children in the Waimana, Ruatoki, Thornton and Ohope districts. There are three qualified nurses who maintain the Dental Clinic and the mobile unit. One of these nurses, has almost a full-time job tending the Caravan Clinic that operates out in the country districts. “If the parents wish their children’s teeth to be properly attended to they must be prepared to find some solution to the boarding problem that confronts the committee,” said Mr Hubbard, headmaster, discussing the question ' yesterday. “Otherwise, the clinic will have to work short-handed and this will not allow them to carry out their job efficiently. It is up to the parents of children receiving treament from the clinic (or any other person for that matter) to ensure that the new nurse is able to obtain board in Whakatane.”
