Minister Interested In Poroporo Experiments

ft On his way from Gisborne to Tauranga, the Minister of Agriculture, Mr E. L. Cullen, spent last night at Whakatane. He had no official appointments here, and no statements to make for publication. Mr Cullen was accompanied by Mr A. M. W. Greig, advisory officer to the Minister’s office. Chief object of the Ministerial visit to Bay of Plenty is to meet members of the 9 New Zealand Citrus Council at Tauranga tomorrow. On the way through from Whakatane this morning, Mr Cullen is making a call at the Poroporo school, where he is to meet Mr H. A. Savage, in whose efforts to interest Maori people in growing sub-tropical fruits the Minister is interested. Mr Savage’s experimental plantation is being inspected. The rest of Mr Cullen’s day will be spent in a tour of the rehabilitation citrus farms at Te Puke.
