New Domain Tennis Courts Open Tomorrow

The newly-formed Whakatane Lawn Tennis Club will tomorrow be celebrating a very momentous occasion—the official opening of the five new grass courts on the Domain. These courts represent a prodigious effort on the part of the members, as practically all the work in cultivating, levelling, sowing and surround has been accomplished by volunteer labour. Although much remains to be done, the fact is that there are five courts ready for play and having reasonably hard, true surfaces. The officials of the Club are anxious that all those interested in tennis will be present at the opening which will take place tomorrow at 1.30 p.m. . '

This invitation applies not only to members of sister clubs but' also to those residents of Whakatane who were members of the old Whakatane Lawn Tennis Club. For those people who come to watch there will be exhibition matches provided by the top men players of the Bay and also some promising junior players. For those who wish to play, a large progressive tournament has been arranged to follow the ~ exhibition matches. Afternoon tea will be provided by the women members of the club.
