Citizens’ Band’s Farewell To Popular Member

A presentation was made by the president, Mr A. J. Canning, on behalf of the Whakatane Citizens’ Band on Wednesday evening to Bandsman Brian Skelton, who is leaving Whakatane to go to Auckland Training College to commence training as a school tea@her. , Mr Canning in his remarks stated that Brian was one of the first to join the Boys’ Band eight years ago under the baton of the late Mr H. Mayo and later under Mr W. Jarrett. Brian had made great progress as a euphonium player, a fact which had been proved in trophies and medals won at various band contests.

“The Band is losing an outstanding player and hopes it will not be long before Brian completes his education, gets appointed to a position in the Whakatane district and returns to the Band,” Mr Canning concluded. Bandmaster W. Jarrett also referred to the valuable assistance rendered by Brian to the Band and the pleasant relations that existed between them. Brian will be joining the Auckland Artillery Band, to which two previous Whakatane Boys’ Band members, the Ward brothers, now belong.
