“We Remember Your Birthday,” is an alluring caption over an advertisement in a Wellington paper calling for a shorthand typist. Among the usual offers of high wages, excellent conditions, morning and afternoon tea and ample holidays is the promise, “and every girl’s birthday is remembered by the friendly management and staff.”
