Pleasant Social Evening

Mrs F. , H. Stewart, wife of the retiring Fire Brigade Superintendent, was guest of honour at a gathering of firemen’s wives at Mrs T. Hurndell’s home in Goulstone Road last week. The evening, which had been planned as a surprise for Mrs Stewart, opened with the presentation of a bouquet of gladioli, polyanthus roses and carnations. Supper was sumptuous, and the hours were further brightened with a sing-song round the piano, and competitions, which were won by Mrs Stewart and Miss Verna Head.

At an appropriate place in the toast list, the good wishes of the whole company were conveyed to Mrs Stewart in a sincere little speech by Mrs Hurndell.
