Awakeri Women’s Division

The Awakeri Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union held the last meeting of the year in the Awakeri Hall recently. Mrs Hauitain presided over a fair attendance. After the business was dealt with, Miss Jensen gave a talk on the growing of Sweet Peas. Mrs N. MacDonald also spoke on the best types of roses for show purposes and displayed some very, fine blooms. Both talks were most interesting and enjoyed by all. A competition for a bowl of roses and vase of sweet peas for effect brought forth a very fine display, the winners being:— Sweet peas, Mrs Roberts and Mrs Jensen equal, 1, Mrs Jensen 2, Mrs N. Carter 3.

Roses, Mrs D. MacDonald 1, Mrs E. C. Hauitain 2, Mrs Matchitt 3. The monthly competition winners were:—

Vegetable, Mrs Fabish 1, Mrs McGougan 2, Mrs E. C. Hauitain 3. Flower, Mrs Missen 1, Mrs D. MacDonald 2, Mrs Roberts 3. Fruit, Mrs N. MacDonald 1, Mrs Fabish 2, Mrs Jensen 3. The afternoon concluded with the serving of a very dainty afternoon tea.
