Popular Taneatua Resident Leaves For Wellington
The Taneatua hall was recently the scene of a farewell evening held in honour of Miss Bertha Peebles, a very much esteemed resident of Taneatua, who has since left to reside in Wellington. Mr G.. Symmans was M.C. for the dancing and music was supplied by Miss J. Lockingham, Messrs G. Print 'A. Wardlaw and G. Grey.
A Monte Carlo was won by Miss Lockingham and Mr J. O’Brien.
A shoulder spray of red roses was presented to Miss Peebles, on behalf of the members of the golf club.
After supper Mr Alexander, on behalf of the golf and tennis clubs, expressed the regret of members at the loss of Miss Peebles who has been a member of the tennis club for 25 years. He then presented her with a handbag and compact. Miss Peebles, in a brief speech, thanked Mr Alexander for his kind remarks and her friends for the gifts received. , The singing of Auld Lang Syne concluded the evening.
