At the November meeting of the Thornton Women’s Institute, Mrs Robb presided. Circle reports (gardening and glee and drama) were given by convenors. A link letter was read from Craighoelaiche, Scotland. Mrs Hawken gave an interesting travel talk on a 4000-mile trip through Germany in 1937. Mrs Robb gave a recitation in costume. As it was international day, members brought interesting articles from overseas for display. Competitions resulted: Best flower, Mrs Magee 1, Mrs Spence 2; best vegetable, Mrs Sheat 1, Mrs J. Branch 2; fancy jelly, Mrs Branch 1, Mrs Robb 2; emblems, Mrs Branch and Mrs Gardner equal 1, Mrs Robb 2; peg bag and oven cloth, Mrs Branch 1, Mrs Robb 2.
