Boxing Association Stages Splendid Show: Willing Amateurs Mix It

Congratulations are due .to the Whakatane Boxing Association for a first class show on Saturday night. The long programme carried niner teen bouts, featuring boxers from Gisborne, Katikati, Taneatua, Opotiki, Matamata, Edgecumbe, Mangakino, Otakiri, Rotorua, Tauranga and Whakatane. All the bouts held interest and all were fought in the best tradition of amateur boxing. Results follow:

Heavyweight: T. Turnbull, 12.10, Gisborne beat L. Candy, ’Whakatane, 12.10 by a knock out in the second round; S. Ellery, 12.12, Katikati beat S. Hunt, 13.8, Taneatua on points. Light-heavy: L. D’Almida, 11.6 r Opotiki and R. Wood, 12.0, Whakatane, drew; P. Jacobsen, 11.4.- beat J. Maxwell 11.6, by a T.K.O. in round 2. (Both of Whakatane). Middleweight: D. Bruce, 11.0 Matamata, beat J. Hunt, 11.4, Katikati, on points; T. Connor 10.13, Opotiki, beat N. Crawford, 10.10, Katikati, on points.

Welter: G. Francis, 9.7, Whakatane, beat B. Baty, 9.11, Edgecumbe on points; J. Baty, 10.0, Edgecumbe, beat R. Digglemann, 9.10, Katikati, on points. Lightweight: P. Graham, 9.7, Gisborne, beat W.
