Vacant Ohope Sections Alleged Serious Fire Risk
Pointing out that the present condition of vacant sections at Ohope constitutes a serious fire menace, the Ohope Progress League has asked the Whakatane County Council to take steps to compel owners to clear their sections within si stipulated time, after which it was suggested the Council should clear them, charging the owners all expenses incurred. Last Tuesday’s meeting of the Council decided to refer the matter to the District M.P. for him to take up with the appropriate Minister. Condition Of Roadway The condition of the roadway and footpath is still causing the League considerable concern and water continues to lie in hollows for several days after rain. The League requested the Council to have the necessary filling completed as soon as possible, and also drew attention to the danger to children of the holes dug alongside the road and footpath to drain water from the hollows. That matter was referred to Cr H. C. McCready and the engineer, Mr C. BL.Brebner.
