Alleged “Peeping Toms” Caught At Otakiri: Midnight Chase
John Tuhoe and Mack Pouwhare, both farmhands, aged 18, were brought before Mr L. H, Brown, J.P. in the Police Court at Whakatane yesterday charged with being found by night without lawful excuse in the enclosed yard of Clarence Ranby at Otakiri, but not under circumstances that disclosed intent to commit an offence. Sergeant M. Farrell, who asked for a remand until November 11, explained that the defendants Avere only arrested at midnight on Sunday after a chase in which Mr Ranby collared one himself and the police later rounded up the other. The police believed the pair had been there to try to watch a girl going to bed. The remand was granted.
