Lack Of Facilities Handicap To Club
Lack of facilities had been a tremendous setback stated Mr Buttimore when reviewing the past year’s activities of the Whakatane Amateur Swimming Club. Promises of a temporary pool in the river and a bath suitable for the holding of carnivals at the Heads had both failed to eventuate. The granting to the club of the use of the school baths had been the turning point of the club’s success. From a membership of twelve the ranks swelled to over 100. The learn to swim week conducted in these baths had proved a tremendous success and it was hoped to carry these further this season. Financial The balance sheet showed the club to be in a sound financial position. It was decided to fix the subscription at the same rate as for the previous year.
