Yugoslav Politics Auckland’s Yugoslav community has been split into factions as a result of members of the Yugoslav Club refusing to share in the activities of a politically-minded Yugoslav Association. Because of a fear that criticism of the Tito regime or its supporters in New Zealand may cause undeserved suffering for relatives in the homeland, only discreet references are made to developments but opponents of the association and its constituent Yugoslav Society (Marshal Tito) claim that it. is a thinly-disguised Communist organisation.
Centres As Memorials Community centres as war memorials were advocated by Mr J. Mathison (Govt., Avon) during the discussion of the Internal Affairs Department’s Estimates in the House of Representatives. Such centres, he said, should serve two purposes. They should be suitable to commemorate the men who had lost their lives in the war, and they should also be centres of cultural and sporting life. The Minister of External Affairs, Mr W. E. Parry, said he could think of no more dignified more useful or more suitable war memorial than a community centre.
