Exhibition Of High School Pupils’ Art

An Art Exhibition was held last Friday at the Whakatane High School consisted of most of the Art work executed by the pupils in all the forms since February of this year. The work was divided into the following branches of Art study: Free drawing, sketches of views around the High School grounds and some examples of Maori design. Owing to post-war conditions it is very difficult to get good brushes and paper, but in spite of this the pupils showed talent. There were some very good drawings of horses and various outdoor scenes by J. Carter, and good sketches and pictures were sent in by Lorna Alley, Shirley Barton, Joseph Tukaki, Pat Morice, Doreen McLay, Marie Burt, Terence McGougan, Shirley Oxenbridge, Valerie Brown.
