CAR OVER BANK
GOLFERS NARROW ESCAPE RETURNING FROM WHAKATANE Three Rotorua golfers returning from Whakatane on Sunday night had a fortunate escape from serious injury when their car left the road only six miles on the way home and plunged over a bank, to end up on its side in six feet of water at the bottom of a ditch. One of the passengers, Mr W. Kusabs, suffered slighf injury, and was admitted to the Whakatane Hospital for observation, while the driver, Mr R. F. Smith, and the •other passenger, Mr A. Curry, received only superficial cuts and bruises.
The accident occurred when the lights failed at a crucial moment as the car was approaching a bridge ‘on a downhill bend. Crashing through the approach railing, the car plunged some 15ft. to end up on its side straddling the ditch, half of it being submerged. All three occupants hastily ■scrambled to safety. The car was mot extensively damaged.
