MAIZE PRODUCTION
PLANTINGS BY MAORIS
TARGET OF 4000 ACRES SET
Efforts are being made to increase the production of maize in New Zealand.' A committee of three, which has been set up by the Native Department, is visiting various Maori centres furthering the proposal. A member of this special maize committee is Mr J. V. Devcich, of Tauranga, who told a representative of the Beacon last week that Maoris had been met in the Poverty Bay, East Coast and Bay of Plenty Other members of the committee were Messrs. J. H. Flowers and J. Ferris. The committee, which was only with, increased maize production by ' Idaori farmers, was endeavouring to gain a target of 4000 acres of maize throughout New Zealand this year as a part of the Aid for Britain campaign. The committee, it was stated, was now on its way to Maori centres in North Auckland.
