KEEN SHOOTING

ROD AND GUN CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP WEEKEND RESULTS The Whakatane Rod and Gun Club experienced an excellent day’s activities last Sunday when the Championship Shoot drew no less than 23 competitors. The main performances achieved a high standard though competitors had to contend with a tricky wind most of the day.

Messrs. W. C. Davies and Lloyd George tied in the Championship and after a shoot-off of five birds were still even. In the extended shoot, Mr George secured the Championship and the Lodge Cup. Mr W. C. Davies, runner-up has filled this position on two other occasions. Mr George, the winner also won the Rivett Novice Cup, and again had to shoot-off, this time with the donor’s son, Mr James Rivett Jnr. He also tied in the eye-opener and was runner-up in the five-bird sweep. Considering this is the first occasion he has shot in matches, his performance off the 16 yard mark was outstanding. The Skeet Championship and Kerr Brothers’ Cup was won by Mr A. E. Powdrell, who had to shoot a good score to head off the Club Captain, Mr Stan Kerr, who had won this trophy on two previous occasions.
