WOMEN’S DIVISION

AWAKERI BRANCH The August meeting of the Awakeri branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers was held recently. Mrs Haultain presided over a record attendance. ■ The meeting opened with the reading of the Creed. The president welcomed new members, also members who had been absent from meetings through illness. After the minutes of the previous meeting had been read and confirmed, and correspondence and business dealt with, Mrs Carter gave an account of the Conference, dealing mostly with remits. Mrs Knight spoke on the housekeeping and Mrs Haultain on general topics discussed at the Conference. The talks were very interesting and much appreciated, the speakers being accorded votes of thanks.

Afternoon tea was served by Mesdames McKenzie, Luke and Wickham. A spelling competiiton was well responded to. Competition winners were:— Marmaladfe: Mrs Roberts 1, Mrs Rust 2, Mrs Wilson 3. Flower: Mrs L. Carter 1, Mrs Burr 2, Mrs Brizzle 3. Fruit: Mrs Barr 1, Mrs N. Carter 2, Mrs N. McDonald 3. Vegetable: Mrs L. Carter 1, Mrs N. McDonald 2, Mrs Fabish 3.

The meeting 7 closed with the Natiorial Anthem.
