VALEDICTORY

MR W. JOHN GOING TO TE AWAMUTU The staff of the Commercial Hotel gathered at a pieplant evening recently to a member, Mr W. John, who is Jlaving for Te Awamutu to take up farming. On behalf'of the staff Mr N. Bremner presented the guest with a travelling bag and wished him every success in his new undertaking. „ Mr John, in his reply, thanked all present for the pleasant evening and gift. He had made many friends and had spent many happy hours while a member of the staff of the hotel. Lodge Farewell , At a meeting of the Whakatane M.U.1.0.0.F. Lodge last Thursday evening Bro. W. John P.G. was presented with a P.G. Jewel, inscribed for meritorious service to his Lodge and Order. In making the presentation, Bro. Dobson, District Grand Master, of Wanganui, mentioned the work done by Bro. John, especially during his term of office as secretary of the Whakatane Lodge. The guest was presented with a scarf from the Lodge members. In his reply ,Bro. John sincerely thanked the Lodge for the presentation and Bro. Dobson for his kind remarks. He expressed his regret at leaving the district, in which he had made many friends.
