SCHOOL FOR OHOPE
AT AN EARLY DATE 1 SITE ALREADY SELECTED Advice that the Education Department had approved the establishing of a separate school at Ohope Beach was received by the School Committee at its meeting on Tuesday. This is a direct result of persistent representations to the Education Board by the committee and is a considerable step in the programme the committee has sponsored. The news will be welcomed by residents of the beach 1 in particular. Side School Set Up In Tune last year, following representations by the school committee, the Education Board set up a side school at Ohope to provide for children up to standard two. This is still being carried on in the Presbyterian Church premises. At the same time a suitable section was selected by the committee, with members of the Ohope Progress League, for the establishment of a separate school to take children up to standard four, having a headmaster and establishment of its own. Area Set Aside The area originally selected was under the control of the Native Department and that department has now put forward a proposal which has been accepted by the committee, for the setting aside of an area adjoining the Caledonian Sports ground for school purposes.
The committee will continue to press for the early establishment of the school with the necessary buildings, which should open with approximately 100 pupils.
