CONTROL OF GORSE
THREAT TO RANGITAIKI COUNCILLOR’S WORNING Declaring that he had recently visited gorse-infested areas in Taranaki, Cr Leslie at the meeting of the Wliakatane County Council last Tuesday warned the Council that already there were patches of this pest cropping up in the County and that speedy action should be taken to eradicate it and remove the threat to farming lands adjoining.
“If gorse gets away into some of the hills and back country,” said Cr Butler, “heaven help us.” The council was agreed that firmer measures should be taken to control noxious weeds generally in the County, and the Inspector’s attention will be drawn to any stands of gorse, hemlock, burr or other weeds with instructions to prosecute.
