WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

GARDENING CIRCLE WAIMANA-NUKUHOU r The July meeting of the WaimanaNukuhou Women’s Institute gardening circle was held at Mrs Cooper’s home, Waimana, Mrs Wylde presided over a full attendance of members, and one new member, Mrs Hewitt was welcomed.

The principle business of the meeting was the drawing up of a schedule of the Institute flower show to be held in October. Several questions on gardening problems were answered by members. The afternoon competitions were numerous and were won as follows: Best flower: Mrs Hughes 1, Mrs Wylde 2, Mrs Mampton 3. Best vegetable: Mrs Cooper 1, Mrs G. Mitchell 2, Mrs King 3. Small vase flowers for effect: Mrs C. Eagle 1, Miss Currie 2, Mrs J. Mitchell 3.

Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mrs R. Looney and Miss Doreen Hughes. At the conclusion of the meeting Mrs Wylde thanked Mrs Cooper for the pleasant afternoon and also the hostesses for the delicious afternoon tea served. TANEATUA BRANCH GARDENING CIRCLE A very delightful afternoon was •spent at Mrs Doran’s residence when the members of the Taneatua Gardening Circle gathered there for their monthly meeting. Mrs Butlef presided over a large gathering. Minutes were read and confirmed. Arrangements" were made and a schedule drawn up for the. Institute show of flowers to be held in September. Members enjoyed their stroll round the gardens which were a picture of neatness. A competition arranged by Mrs Doran was won by Mrs Grey. Mrs Reeves judged the competitions as follows:

Best flower: Mrs Oliver' 1, Mrs Butler 2, Mrs Bennett 3. Best vegetable: Mrs Butler 1, Mrs Cradwick 2, Mrs K. Tebbutt 3. Best garden in a dinner plate: Mrs Cradwick 1, Mrs Bennett 2, Mrs Grey 3. Afternoon tea was served by Mrs Merrie and Mrs Grey.
