OBITUARY

MRS V. M. CAREY The death occurred on July 30 at the Whakatane Hospital of Mrs Vera Mimie Carey, wife of Captain George Carey, Harbourmaster to the Whakatane Harbdur Board. Mrs Carey who was 48 years of age, was born at Ponsonby, Auckland, where she was educated and spent her early life. Soon after marrying she went north with her husband to Whangarei, where they remained for some years. Returning to Auckland the family made its home in Balmoral and did not shift until 1936 when Captain Carey received his appointment to Whakatane. During her eleven years residence in this town, the late Mrs Carey made many friends though her failing health in recent years made it almost imposible for her to get about. She will be sadly missed. Mrs Carey is survived by her husband, and two children, Mr Laurence Carey, and Mrs R. Adcock both of Whakatane.
