DRAMA EVENING

THREE PLAYS PRESENTED TANEATUA FUNCTION Last week the Taneatua Drama Club presented a triple bill to a most appreciative audience in the Taneatua Hall. The first play to be presented was “Playgoers” by Arthur Pinero. The actors and- actresses taking part were: Master: Greg Grey; Mistress: Dorothy Tebbutt; Parlor Maid: Amy Moore; Useful Maid: Doris Grey; Kitchen Maid: Verna Anderson; Cook: Gladys McDonald; Housemaid: Maud Hayward; Odd Man: Roger Hill. The brisk tempo, snappy dialogue and amusing plot of this play made good entertainment. “Smoke Screens” by Harold Brighouse was the second play on the programme. This little true to life, drama was very well played by Amy Moore, (Primrose Aston), Missie Butler (Susan Merriden)j Leonie Gardner (Lucy Arten) and Verna Anderson (Clarice).-

Arnold Helsley’s comedy “Strained Relations” concluded the programme. Those taking part were: Amelia Travers: Amy Moore; Mrs Travers: Maud Hayward; Gertie Waddilove: Dorothy Tebbutt; Mrs Waddilove: Thelma Goodhew; Mrs Courtney: Nessie Butler.

The amused chuckles of the audience throughout the play was ample reward to the cast for the work they had put into it. At the conclusion of the programme the entire cast took a curtain call together with the producer, Mrs Rose-anne Rutherford.

Mrs Grey, oh behalf of the cast, presented Mrs Rutherford with a charming bouquet of spring flowers and thanked her for the help she had given and the work she had put into producing the plays. The stage managing and handling of properties was very capably carried out by John Butler and James Goodhew.
