Prolific Pinus Production At the meeting of the delegates from Whakatane to the Murupara branch of the Chamber of Commerce last Saturday, it was stated by way of showing the prolific nature of the pinus cuts from the Kiangaroa plantations, that from 103 acres no less than 50,000 superficial feet were cut.
Shipping From Ohiwa Mentioning the fact that 3000 tons of fertiliser came over the gorge road to Galatea each year, Mr G. Cawte when addressing members of the Whakatane Chamber of Commerce last Saturday, said that this fact alone should reinforce the argument for the proposed rail link with Te Teko. He mentioned also the fact that there was a steady fall from that district to the plains and suggested that it would be folly to go to the expense of railing timber to Tauranga for shipping when there was a perfectly good harbour with deep water access at Ohiwa where reasonably large ships could load.
