HONOURING MONTY

SCHOOL HOLIDAY ON MONDAY THE ROTORUA VISIT In order to allow the pupils of as many schools as possible to attend the Civic Reception tendered to Field - Marshal Montgomery, at Rotorua on Monday next, many schools in this area will declare a general holiday. This will include Whakatane, Thornton, Awakeri and Edgecumbe and possibly others. Arrangements at Rotorua include special accommodation for approximately 3000 children outside the Town Hall at 11.45 a.m. * when the Civic Reception takes place. There will be no military aspect, the whole procedure being purely civic, and it is hoped i that Viscount Montgomery will avail himself of a chance to meet the children and to speak to them. In honour of the famous soldier’s visit, all schools not making the Rotorua day available as a holiday will observe Wednesday 30th as a holiday.
