First Offender Charged A first offender appeared in the Police Court on Monday morning, charged with drunkenness. He was convicted and discharged.

Owing to the removal by the Government of the sugar subsidies, the prices of all chocolate products will be increased according to advice received in Whakatane. Chocolate tablets which previously sold at 3id, 7d and is Id, will now' retail at 4d, 8d and Is 3d. Filled tablets formerly selling at 8d are now 9d. All cocoa products will experience a similar rise on price.

Maize Subsidy Unchanged The subsidy on maize this year will remain the same as last year at Is 6d a bushel. Graduated prices will be from 5s 6d to 6s 2d a bushel, plus subsidy, and in addition a sacks extra charge will be allowed on the basis of a full-sized sack in good condiiton and others according to value. This statement was made following the annual meeting of the N.Z. Maize Marketing. Committee in Gisborne.

Air Training Dance The outstanding social event of the week will be the dance run by the local Air Training Corps, on Saturday evening next. All who enjoy a first-class night’s entertainment should make a point of attending. Funds from this event will be devoted to the' advanced training of the members of the local unit, who will be given actual air instruction from the Tauranga Aerodrome. Members of the Rotorua 'and Tauranga squadrons will be in attendance as guests. [
