FAVOURABLE COMMENT ON WHAKATANE
BECAUSE it is mid-winter there seems to have been many 'travellers passing through Whakatane lately in the course of long motor tours during annual holidays. From these visitors there have been many favourable comments to Whakatane people about the appearance of the town and district. Visitors are at once impressed by the well-farmed lands on the main roads into the town. As they pass through the residential streets they have time to note that all homes appear comparatively new and gardens are well kept. The business portion of the town seems to be noteworthy to * visitors because there are so many fine new buildings and a relative absence of the old, tumble-down shops that detract from first appearances in some older and larger towns. The compact nature of the Whakatane business area has often been commented on by commercial travellers with no time to waste. It is pleasing to hear such favourable comment. No doubt the development of the town in the next few years will further icrease Whakatane’s popularity with through travellers and visitors.
