STRAYING STOCK ARE A DANGER

OBSERVANT county councillors consider that there have been more stock straying on roads in Whakatane County than for a long time. This is a pity, because there is also more road traffic than before, and straying stock are a nuisance at any time and a source of danger to motorists at night. Commendable work has been done by the county inspector in driving stray horses and cattle to the various county pounds. However, the county is large and all roads cannot be patrolled the same day. Perhaps the publicity given to the fact that the council is aware of the nuisance will prompt offenders to keep their stock at home.
