BOARDING PROBLEMS

TEACHERS’ DIFFICULTIES HOSTEL PROPOSED Discussion on the possibility of moving an old school at Taneatua into Whakatane to serve as a hostel for lady teachers took place at the school committee meeting on Monday. The difficulty of obtaining private board for these teachers was stressed. A similar undertaking to the proposed venture had been successfully tried out at Wellsford. The hostel would be confined to female teachers only and members were of the opinion that such a building would considerably ease the present position besides attracting many who would otherwise refuse positions in Whakatane. It was decided to put the suggestion before the education board at an early date.
