Rabbits Take Poison Freely Rabbiters had been working during the past month on numerous proerties in the Matata riding and on Crown lands at Edgecumbe and Tarawera, also Native lands at Edgecumbe, Awakaponga and coast areas, stated the inspector’s report. . The board’s employees have poisoned 10,600 acres and fumigated 7,800 acres using 9241b5. phosphorised pollard, 661bs. of cynogas, and 3 gallons of carbon bi-sulphide. In. most places rabbits are taking the poison freely, and the rabbiters have obtained good results on the whole. In a few places results have not been so good, and it will be necessary to re-poison these places. The inspector’s report was read and adopted.
Mr Black stated that he had inspected from 6000 to 7000 acres in his locality and he had conferred with ratepayers in that area. They were satisfied with the work and the area was very clean except for a few rabbits on one property. The ratepayers appeared to be well satisfied but they stressed the fact that it was still necessary for the position to be closely watched so that the rabbit pest could be kept under control. Extension of Area The necessary majority of ratepayers’ signatures for the proposed extension of the Pongakawa Rabbit District having been obtained, the board has made application through the Department of Agriculture to the Governor-General for the boundaries of the Pongakawa Rabbit District to be re-defined. The area to be included embraces the lake front from the Ohau channel to the Wairoa Road and Lakes Tarawera, Okataina, Rotoiti and Rotoma.
