WINTER DEBATES FOR YOUNG PEOPLE
GOOD work is being done by the Young Farmers’ Clubs of the district in arranging debates between teams of their members. It is now considered not enough that young people on the land should know how to do their daily work: they also need practice in explaining how and why they follow certain lines in their farming, or what they think about everything affecting their district. This opportunity is afforded by the Young Farmers’ Club gatherings. In these debates the young farmers of today will gain confidence that should be to their advantage when the time comes for them to become leaders in farming life and in local body matters. How to speak well in public is an art which comes to most people only through long experience, and debating is the best way to gain experience.
