Bay of Plenty Beacon Published Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. MONDAY, JUNE 23, 1947 CO-OPERATION IN SCHOOL MATTERS
ANOTHER example of co-operation in school matters has been afforded by the good work of the Whakatane ParentTeacher Association. Thanks to this group of citizens the Whakatane District High School has been provided with the latest in motion picture projectors. Those attending the association’s first social evening last week saw the projector in action and went away convinced that their contributions towards the cost were a wise investment. Showing educational films in schools is now considered to be an essential part of instruction in all countries and in all types of school. There is no lack of films which impress lessons on young minds in a more interesting way than anything else can. It is indeed a cause for satisfaction that Whakatane district children will have the advantages of this form of new cultural education. Wisely used the talking films can be of immeasurable benefit in education. Enough was seen by parents attending the film evening last week to make it clear what Britain and the United States are doing with talking films in their schools. Now Whakatane has had the good fortune to secure a projector when such machines are not plentiful and may become increasingly more difficult to obtain. It was a wise move and one that shows the advantages of having a live organisation to co-operate with teachers and school committee.
