WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

TANEATUA MEETING The monthly meeting of the Taneatua Women’s Institute was held on June 10 in the hall supper room. Mrs Gardner presided. Mrs Grey was elected new president in succession to Mrs Allen who has resigned. For the Corso appeal several cakes of toilet soap were handed in and members were asked to bring pencils and exercise books, for the same cause, to the July meeting. The Roll Call for the day was, “My Silliest Kitchen Mistake” and all manner of ridiculous mistakes were revealed. Golden Thread talk entitled Women of Japan was given by Mrs K. Tebbutt.

Mrs Butler gave an instructive smocking demonstration. A play reading entitled “Sorcery in a Suburb” was performed by Mesdames McDonald, Butler, Merrie, Gardner and Moore. Afternoon tea was then served after which Mrs Gardner thanked hostesses and judges for the afternoon and the singing of God Save the King , concluded the meeting.. Competitions resulted as follows: Vegetable: Mrs Hayward 1, Mrs K. Tebbutt 2. Flower: Mrs Grey 1, Mrs Hayward 2. Coat hanger: Mrs Grey 1, Mrs Hayward 2.
